A four-race Upper Rogue weekend based in Union Creek. Saturday’s point-to-point 50-mile and 50K races require organizer shuttles; Sunday’s half marathon and 12K start at the picnic shelter.
Shuttles, starts, parking and Union Creek logistics
Daybreak Racing’s four Upper Rogue races are based at the Union Creek Day Use Picnic Shelter & Amphitheater, about 11 miles north of Prospect on Highway 62. Registration is closed. The organizer’s UltraSignup page still offers a volunteer link; check there for current openings.
Friday pickup and Saturday point-to-point races
Friday, October 16, begins with a 5 p.m. shakeout run and shoe demo at the picnic shelter. Optional bib pickup and a campfire run from 5:30–6:30 p.m., followed by an outdoor movie from 6:30–7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, bib pickup opens at 5 a.m. The 50-mile shuttle leaves Union Creek Wayside at 6:10 a.m. for a 7 a.m. start at Mazama View Trailhead. The 50K shuttle leaves at 7:45 a.m. for an 8:30 a.m. start at National Creek. The organizer says runners may not be dropped at either start: use the race shuttle. The final cutoff and finish-line conclusion are at 8 p.m.
Sunday half marathon and 12K
Sunday bib pickup opens at 8 a.m. at the picnic shelter. The half marathon starts there at 9 a.m., followed by the 12K at 9:30 a.m.. The event is scheduled to conclude at 1 p.m.
Where to park
The organizer lists event parking along Forest Road 390, in the Red Barn lot and at the Rogue Gorge Day Use Area. Trailers and RVs are not allowed in the Forest Road 390 or Red Barn parking areas. Campers and lodge guests should leave vehicles at their accommodations. Do not use the Union Creek Wayside or Beckie’s Cafe for event parking.
Union Creek Campground has water and vault toilets but no electric hookups or showers; the organizer strongly discourages RVs and trailers longer than 16 feet. Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area is about 20 miles south, and Natural Bridge Campground about one mile south has first-come sites.
Course rules, weather and travel
Leashed, well-behaved dogs may be at the staging area and crew-accessible aid stations, but they are not allowed on the race courses. The organizer says October mornings are often in the 30s or 40s, while daytime temperatures can range from the 50s into the upper 70s; check the National Weather Service forecast and race communications before leaving.
Drivers approaching through Shady Cove should also check TripCheck. Its Southwest Oregon report, checked October 14, lists an 18-foot width restriction on OR 62 through October 30; schedules and restrictions can change.
The banner is a 2010 photograph of Rogue River Gorge at Union Creek, not a photograph of the races. Daybreak’s event photos are linked on the official page but are not rehosted here because no website-reuse license was verified.
