What the walk involves
NPS measures the complete loop at 3.3 miles with about 1,125 feet of elevation gain. The 1.3-mile figure sometimes quoted is only the one-way distance to the tree, not the full hike.

What makes this trail distinct
The destination is a notably large Douglas-fir amid forest above the caves. Allow time for a sustained climb and follow the park's designated loop rather than turning a one-way figure into a round-trip estimate.
