What the walk involves
Select one of BLM's seven trailheads and a manageable segment of the former 26.5-mile ditch line. The historic ditch length is not a suggested day-hike distance; identify your turnaround or a second vehicle on the official map.

What makes this trail distinct
The ditch was built in 1877 with labor including Chinese workers, a part of the area's history that deserves attribution rather than a romanticized mining story. The trail has no drinking water; respect adjacent private property and avoid damaging wet trail tread.
Before you set out
Several trailheads and long segments; identify the correct start and turnaround.
